Privacy
This page explains, in plain language, what we collect and why. It is a summary written for people, not a legal contract. The full document is the Privacy Policy.
What we collect and why
We group information by purpose and collect only what each purpose needs.
Identity
A stable account identity and contact attributes (such as an email or a social-provider alias) so you can sign in and we can reach you about your account. Identity is managed by Microsoft Entra External ID.
Financial planning information
The household, income, accounts, assets, and assumptions you enter to build a plan. This is the information that produces your projections. It stays within your household and its private assumptions.
Authentication
Session and security information needed to keep your account signed in safely and to let you sign out everywhere. Chapterwise never receives your password.
Analytics
Operational telemetry about service health, latency, and failures so we can keep the product working. Scenario payloads and personal financial values are excluded from telemetry.
Payments
If you subscribe, payment is handled by a hosted payment provider. Chapterwise does not store card numbers or security codes.
Communications
Transactional messages, such as household invitations and security or account notices, needed to operate the service.
Household information
Plans belong to a household, and household members can see the shared plan. Because members can export their own copies, we show role permissions before you accept an invitation. Exports require an authenticated session; deletion requests require authentication within the previous five minutes.
Your controls
- Download your accessible data as JSON, and export a CSV index and a readable PDF index.
- Sign out on this device or everywhere.
- Leave a household without deleting it.
- Request account deletion, or household deletion as an owner, as separate actions.
These controls are available in the app under Settings → Privacy.
Data residency
Chapterwise uses trusted cloud providers. Depending on the services used, personal information may be processed or stored in Canada or other jurisdictions.
Appropriate contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards are used for information handled outside your home province or country.
Where practical, Chapterwise prefers Canadian data residency for core customer planning information. We describe where data is processed rather than suggesting that every piece of information stays within one country.
Previous beta access requests
During Chapterwise’s earlier closed beta, visitors could submit a short access application containing their name, email, province or territory, intended use, and optional comments. We collected this only to review and administer beta access.
We do not use previous application information for unrelated marketing without separate consent. Our human-verification and email providers processed limited request information to prevent abuse and notify our team. Historic applicant information remains subject to the documented retention and deletion controls.
